When one envisions a high-performance electric motorcycle tailored for the European market, a Bengaluru-based startup might not be the first to come to mind. Yet, that’s exactly what Niraj Rajmohan and Narayan Subramaniam achieved with their groundbreaking F77, developed at Ultraviolette Automotive. Founded in 2016, Ultraviolette has rapidly emerged as a pioneer in the high-performance electric vehicle (EV) sector, leveraging cutting-edge technology and innovative design to disrupt the market.

The Birth of a High-Performance EV Brand

Ultraviolette’s journey began with a bold vision – to create electric vehicles that combine aerospace-inspired design with exhilarating performance. The company’s flagship motorcycle, the F77, first captured global attention with its aggressive styling, advanced powertrain, and innovative features. In September 2024, the F77 received the prestigious EU homologation certifications, granting it access to 40 countries, including key markets like Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the UK, Japan, Australia, and several Southeast Asian nations. This marked a significant milestone for the company, reinforcing India’s growing influence in the global EV industry.

Expanding the Product Line – Enter the Tesseract

Building on this momentum, Ultraviolette recently launched its first mass-market electric scooter, the Tesseract, on March 5, 2025. The scooter’s name, inspired by the concept of power and dimensionality, reflects its advanced technological foundation. Priced competitively at ₹1,45,000 for the entry-level variant, Ultraviolette offered an initial discount of ₹25,000 for the first 10,000 buyers, resulting in an overwhelming response. Within the first two days, over 20,000 orders flooded in, prompting the company to extend the offer to the first 50,000 customers. Just 10 days into the launch, the Tesseract had already crossed 40,000 bookings, indicating strong demand for premium electric scooters in India.

Pushing the Boundaries of EV Technology

The Tesseract is packed with industry-leading features typically reserved for high-end vehicles. It boasts a 6kWh battery capable of delivering over 260 km of range on a single charge, making it one of the most powerful electric scooters in India. With a peak power output of 20 hp, advanced traction control, hill-hold assist, regenerative braking, and a radar-based sensing system, the Tesseract is designed for both performance and safety. It also includes innovations like ‘omnisense’ rearview mirrors with blind-spot detection, full-circle radar awareness, and haptic feedback on the handlebars to alert riders of potential hazards.

Engineering Excellence and Global Ambitions

Ultraviolette’s focus on quality extends beyond design and performance. The company has strategically aligned itself with top-tier suppliers to ensure that critical components, like copper bus bars and printed circuit boards, meet the highest standards. As the Indian EV ecosystem matures, Ultraviolette is poised to benefit from a more localized supply chain, enhancing both product quality and production efficiency.

Looking Ahead – Scaling for the Future

With plans to expand its production capabilities, Ultraviolette is currently in talks to establish a factory capable of producing 300,000 vehicles annually. This facility is expected to support the company’s growing portfolio, which now includes the Tesseract, the F77, and a recently unveiled light motorcycle named Shockwave. Additionally, Ultraviolette is reportedly working on a long-distance cruiser, hinting at a broader product lineup aimed at both domestic and international markets.
